Scholars-at-Risk Program

About the Program:

The KWG is committed to supporting scholars-at-risk from the field of Cultural Studies who face challenges in pursuing their research and academic endeavors. Established in 2023, our Scholars-at-Risk Program aims to provide financial assistance to scholars who find themselves in difficult circumstances, enabling them to continue their academic pursuits, participate in conferences, and engage with the scholarly community. It is generally limited to scholars who find themselves in positions of (immediate) risk due to, for example, displacement, war, and threats of violence.

Funding Support:

Through the KWG Scholars-at-Risk Program, eligible scholars may apply for financial assistance up to 1000 Euros per person for activities in 2024. This support can be utilized for a variety of purposes that enhance their academic and professional development, including but not limited to:

  1. Conference Attendance: Covering travel, registration, and accommodation expenses for scholars to participate in academic conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  2. Research Materials: Funding for research materials, books, subscriptions, and access to databases and archives.
  3. Publication Costs: Assistance for scholars to publish their research findings in reputable journals and publications.
  4. Language Courses: Support for language courses to improve communication and research skills.
  5. Professional Development: Funding for training and workshops that enhance scholars‘ research methodologies and academic skills.
  6. Travel Grants: Assistance for travel related to research projects, collaborations, or academic activities.
